Joshua turns 2!

We kicked of March with Josh's 2nd birthday! Here's the post I wrote on his personal blog for his birthday:

My baby boy turned 2!! What!? Why is it okay for kids to grow up this fast??? :-(

This boy is such a cute little charmer. He is mischievous and oh so much trouble. He is BUSY and almost always moving. He is so chatty and can communicate almost anything he wants to. One of his favorite things in the world is to push boundaries and then smile at me like he is just the funniest thing in the world.

Joshua hates being left out. One of his favorite phrases is, "Me too!!" This is especially pertinent to situations with Matthew and Kate. He tries so hard to keep up with them but often causes trouble since he's two years old and all.... and then when Matthew and Kate ditch him, he gets SO offended. He is very lucky that Matthew and Kate are both often happy to let him join in their fun. He adores his big siblings and has loved being included more and more often as he gets older.

Joshua likes super interactive things like hide-and-seek and wrestling and going for walks. He also really likes books and art. He is not all that into nursery rhymes or songs. He has known all his animals and animal sounds for months and months but has ZERO interest in learning his colors or shapes. (The only color he gets consistently correct is pink. Ha!) He knows a few letters but isn't interested in learning those either. One of these days I'll figure out how to get him interested. :-)

Joshua likes food but hates when I make him sit in his booster at the table. He much prefers to eat on the kitchen floor or in a "big boy seat." (A chair without a booster.) In general he's a pretty good eater, though sometimes he struggles with dinner. If he's not particularly fond of something I've made for dinner, (or even sometimes when he is) he'll start saying, "Go Josh! Go Josh!" and that is our cue to start cheering him on. He thinks it's much more fun to take bites when he's being cheered on. It's pretty hilarious. Whatever works I guess!

Joshua has started to become super duper independent. He often says to me, "Self!!" which means he wants to do something himself. This includes getting into his car seat, cleaning his hands, opening something, and brushing his teeth. He rarely wants to hold my hand. Sometimes I'll make him hold my hand while crossing the street or something and it really ticks him off.

Josh's favorite shows are Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, Peppa Pig, Super Why, and Bubble Guppies. However, he often just has to watch whatever Matthew or Kate has chosen so I feel like he has enjoyed some of the "bigger" kid shows and movies earlier than my other two kids did.

Josh isn't scared of much, but he IS scared of the ocean and the pool. I have no idea why, but it's actually kind of nice since watching three little kids at the pool by myself can be overwhelming.... and it's nice to have one kid that wants to stay far away from the edge. ;-) At least for now. Knowing Josh, that won't last too long.

Josh loves animals and the moon. He is all kinds of trouble and I'm sure the Terrible Two's will test my patience like crazy, but I wouldn't trade these days with him for anything. He makes me laugh 100 times a day and is so much FUN. Love you Joshy!

His birthday was filled with all kinds of fun activities. After he got up we took him downstairs and gave him a couple of his presents - a kids picnic table and a water art pad thing. (He is super into art these days.) He loved both and referred to the table as his "present" for weeks.

His favorite breakfast food is eggs so I made him a breakfast burrito.

And then we were off to Makutu's Island, an indoor play place in Chandler. I had found a deal for it on Groupon and decided to use it for Josh's birthday. It was the perfect thing to do - all the kids absolutely loved it and Josh was so excited about all the fun things to play on.

Don't let this next picture fool you. Josh had a fabulous time- he was just starting to get tired by this point and did not want to take a picture. :-)

When we got home I fed him a quick lunch and put him down for a nap. When he got up we were off to McDonalds for an early dinner!

And then it was finally time for cake! I found this Cookie Monster cake on Pinterest and decided to make it because Joshua is definitely a cookie monster. I think it turned out pretty cute!

Josh LOVED blowing out the candle. He made us re-light it a few times so he could blow it out again and again. He's so funny!

Happy 2nd Birthday cute boy! Thanks for being so fun!
